Our Work

Historically viewed as an economical housing solution, modular homes can present unique challenges when owners seek to expand. This project involved a modest footprint addition that nonetheless delivered a transformative result. The living room was expanded to increase livability and to frame dramatic views of the Chalk Cliffs. An integrated design approach was essential to achieving the architectural vision while carefully integrating structural solutions compatible with the existing manufactured home. BrickBarn Works also served as the builder for this project.

Originally constructed over a century ago, this farmhouse had been altered by decades of piecemeal additions that left the home disjointed and inefficient. Through a collaborative design process, BrickBarn Works identified elements worth preserving, removed what no longer served the home, and introduced thoughtfully designed new spaces. The remodel includes a modern great room and a luxurious primary suite, restoring cohesion, while honoring the home’s history.

A historic brick dairy barn and an adjacent, outdated office building sat awkwardly close on the site. This adaptive reuse project, resulting in a residence focused first on saving the barn from imminent roof collapse through design and fabrication of an intricate structural truss system. While its primary role is structural support, the truss also creates striking visual interest within the space. The barn was renovated to have modern function but with a classic brick barn aesthetic, plus reuse of the old barn materials. The office building was similarly overhauled  and ultimately connected to the barn by a circular tower. Though challenging to construct, the round, central structure provides a seamless and elegant transition between the two spaces. This project is a keystone design and construction project for BrickBarn Works.

BrickBarn Works has contributed to a wide range of diverse projects. Some engagements have involved providing structural engineering services and residential architectural design for clients. Other efforts have included structural engineering support to homeowners or architects. BrickBarn Works has also completed emergency foundation design, design for fire-ready mountain retreats, and a variety of custom residential solutions.

This project was driven by location. The client acquired a small, dated ranch home in a prime Salida neighborhood and sought to fully reimagine it. Using an integrated design approach, BrickBarn Works transformed the original structure into a modern two-story farmhouse. Beyond its refined aesthetic, the home incorporates advanced building science strategies to deliver exceptional comfort and energy efficiency. The project is currently under construction.
